Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Urgent Need – Town of Richlands 1st Public Hearing

The Town of Richlands will hold a public hearing on May 7, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at 200 Washington Square, Richlands, VA  24641 to solicit public input on a proposed Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Urgent Need application to be submitted to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development for the Town of Richlands – Urgent Need. Residents of the project area are encouraged to attend. The project will include the following activities: Moving critical internet and communications infrastructure out of the flood plain. Removal of large quantities of debris from lay down yards and away from critical infrastructure such as bridges, etc… The purchase and installation of fixed generators to serve as a redundancy at utility plant sites. The purchase and installation of emergency communications equipment to address interoperability concerns.

The draft CDBG Urgent Need proposal will be presented for comment along with information on projected beneficiaries, and plans to minimize displacement. Citizens will also be given the opportunity to comment on Town of Richland’s past use of CDBG funds. A fact sheet on the proposed project is available at the Town of Richland’s office.
